Summary

Supply installation and commissioning of a new heating system to the sludge digestion process, together with new digester mixing systems.

The work comprises the construction of a new heat exchange building to contain the plant, new underground sludge circulation systems to four digesters, new motor control panel and control systems and modifications to the existing gas blowers.

All work carried out whilst keeping the treatment plant fully operational.

The capital plant comprises four spiral heat exchangers rated at 560kw each; eight progressive sludge pumps and a submersible backwash pump and the complete overhaul of six gas compressors. The pipework installation includes ductile iron, welded stainless steel and welded mild steel pipes up to 200mm in diameter. Improvements were also made to the thermal insulation on the digesters.

The electrical work comprised a new control panel to house all starters, controls and instruments, 11,000 volt switchgear and transformer, extension to existing SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system and modifications to existing gas compression panels to accommodate larger motors.
