Summary
The work involved refurbishment of the main boiler house and included the removal of the upper level roof and demolition of the tank tower.
Roof works involved the removal of the pea gravel bomb blast materials and the installation of new mastic asphalt roof. The chimney to main boilers was removed and replaced by a new free standing mast chimney. The concrete walls to the boiler house were refurbished, including re-alkalisation to carbonated concrete, polymer based levelling mortar and anti-carbonation coating.
The existing underground concrete heating pipe ducts were foam filled with CFC free urethane foam by injection through concrete covers.
All existing cold water mains were replaced with MDPE pipework with electrofusion joints and included 17 pressure reducing valves. Work included all trenching and reinstatement. Modification to existing underground heating mains including replacement of pre-insulated mains, existing calorifiers and pipework removed and replaced with new unvented HWS plant. Electrical works and controls were integrated with existing systems.
